The Amherst Student

Welcome! The Amherst Student is the official student-run newspaper of Amherst College. Established in 1868, The Student is the oldest weekly college publication in the country. Issues are published in print and online every Wednesday of the academic year, with the exception of breaks and exam periods. The mission of The Student is to provide accurate, reliable information on every dimension of campus and community life at Amherst College, highlighting the issues relevant to the college’s students, faculty, staff, alumni and others in the community. The Student aims to amplify student voices and opinions, from multiple perspectives, while acting as a forum for discourse and campus conversation. We strive to live up to the essential role we play in binding the community, recognizing that we are the sole news publication centered on issues pertaining to Amherst College. The Student welcomes any and all Amherst students who wish to contribute to the newspaper. We are always looking for staff to fill a variety of roles, ranging from writers and podcasters to business managers and web designers. No prior experience is required to join.
