In their own words

Our mission is to contribute to the struggle for a more just American food system by acknowledging and fighting against the exploitation and inequality that exists at all levels of the food system. This includes advocating for policy change and working within our own community to address barriers to equal access and choice for low-income communities and communities of color, exploitative treatment of producers (including workers in factories, in slaughterhouses, and on farms), treatment of nonhuman animals, and the treatment of the land. Some ways we worked towards these goals last year included harvesting and donating produce at Book & Plow, packing leftover food from Val to donate to local food banks, organizing a raffle fundraiser/food drive to support the Amherst Survival Center and Food Bank of Western Mass, and meeting with Val staff and the Office of Sustainability to discuss Amherst College's food system. We are always open to new ideas about how to promote a more just food system, so feel free to bring your own ideas as well!
